Athletic fit, fitted in person

Suits for the body you built.

Muscle fit suits for muscular men, bodybuilders and anyone off the rack was never cut for: broad shoulders, a big chest, a narrow waist, thick arms and thighs. Measured in a private appointment at our Langley, Coquitlam or Abbotsford studio, and cut from your 21 measurements.

Why nothing in the store fits

It is the drop, every time.

A 54 chest over a 40 waist is a 14-inch drop. Off the rack is cut at six, and the "athletic fit" rack stops at eight. So the jacket that closes over your chest hangs like a tent at the waist, the trousers that fit your thighs gap at the back, and a tailor spends the day fighting a pattern that was never yours.

A muscle fit suit is not a slim fit scaled up. It is a different pattern. In the appointment we measure the shoulder, chest, bicep, waist, seat and thigh, and cut each to its own number. That is the only way to get all of them right at once, and the reason the suit looks like it belongs to you.

For the full walk through every measurement, read our guide to suits for bodybuilders and muscular men.

What we cut differently

Six measurements, taken by hand.

These are the places an off-the-rack suit gives up on a muscular build. In your appointment we measure each one and cut it to your number.

Shoulders

The seam ends on the bone and the shoulder stays soft, no padding. You already carry the width. Build more on top of it and the jacket reads as a costume.

Chest and button

The jacket closes flat, no X at the button. Your chest and your waist are both cut in, so there is no tent across the front and no strain where it fastens.

Arms

Width through the bicep, not extra length. The sleeve follows the arm and ends where it should, a half inch of shirt cuff showing.
A thick-necked man in a light blue custom dress shirt and navy tie, the shirt collar closed and sitting under the jacket collar

Neck and collar

A shirt collar cut to the neck you actually have, closed without choking and sitting under the jacket collar. Off the rack, the only way to fit the neck is a shirt swimming everywhere else.
A muscular man in navy made-to-measure trousers with room in the thigh, a taper to the ankle and a plain hem with a slight break

Seat and thigh

Room through the seat and thigh, a rise that sits where it should, and a clean taper below the knee so the leg looks lean, not wide. Plain hem, a slight break.

The waist

The drop is cut into the pattern, not pinched in later. Taking a jacket in moves the pockets, the button and the balance. Cutting it from the start moves nothing. This is what separates made to measure from a good alteration.
Cloth

Three cloths, one with give.

An athletic build moves, and the cloth should move with it. We walk you through the range in person, including one with a touch of give, and match the weight and drape to your body.

Wool blend, from $899

An easy, durable way into made to measure. Wears year-round, holds a press, and the cloth most first suits are built in.

Wool blend with stretch, from $1,049

Three percent stretch woven into a matte wool blend, so it reaches, sits and lifts with you and still looks like a suit, not a performance fabric.

Super 120 and Super 150, from $1,299

Finer, lighter and cooler on a man who runs warm. Drapes over the chest instead of adding to it. Super 150 from $1,699. Italian Super 130 from $1,999.

Questions

Common questions.

Where do you fit athletic and muscular builds?

In person at our studios in Langley, Coquitlam and Abbotsford. Each one is a private room, by appointment, with nobody on commission. Your first appointment is complimentary, and we measure you by hand so a broad chest, big arms and a narrow waist are each cut to their own number.

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

By appointment only. It keeps the room private and gives you our full attention. Reserve a time at the studio nearest you, or call 1.833.227.3376 and we will set it up. The first one is complimentary with no obligation.

Why do bodybuilders look smaller in an off-the-rack suit?

Because the jacket was sized to close over the chest, so it hangs straight down from there and buries the waist. Add padded shoulders and a sleeve cut wide the whole way down and the shape disappears. We cut the drop into the pattern, keep the shoulder soft and ending on the bone, and follow the arm with the sleeve, so the suit shows the work instead of hiding it.

Do you fit broad shoulders, a big chest and a small waist at once?

That is the whole point of made to measure. Off the rack forces one of them to lose. In the appointment we measure the shoulder, chest, bicep, waist, seat and thigh and cut each to its own number, which is the only way to get all of them right together.

How long does an athletic fit suit take?

About five to six weeks from your appointment. When it arrives we send a fitting form and reach out personally. Anything that needs adjusting in the first 30 days is handled by a tailor local to you, at our cost.

What does an athletic fit suit cost?

A Cardero suit starts at $899 CAD in a wool blend, $1,049 in a wool blend with 3% stretch, $1,299 in Super 120 wool and $1,699 in Super 150, each cut from your 21 measurements. Alterations are included. There is an additional charge for measurements over 50 inches.

Do you make dress shirts for a muscular neck, chest and arms?

Yes. A custom dress shirt is built to the same measurements, so the collar fits the neck, the chest and shoulders have room, the sleeve fits the arm and the waist stays trim. Shirts start at $199, and the easiest way to get one right is to plan it with the suit it will be worn under.
