What Drives the Price of a Custom Suit

The short version

Three things move the price of a custom suit: the cloth you choose, how the jacket is constructed, and the fitting behind it. Cloth is the biggest lever. Construction affects how the jacket moves and lasts. Knowing what each changes lets you spend where it matters to you.

Two custom suits can carry very different prices, and it is fair to want to know why before you choose. The number is not arbitrary. It is driven by a few specific things, and once you can see them, you can decide exactly where your budget should go.

The Cloth Is the Biggest Lever

Cloth is usually the largest part of the price. A wool blend sits at the accessible end. Finer wools like Super 120 and Super 150 cost more because the yarn is finer and the cloth is lighter to wear. None of these is a better suit than another, they are different weights and finishes for different seasons and budgets. You can price your build across the ranges before you decide.

How the Jacket Is Built

Inside every jacket is a layer that gives the chest its shape. A fully canvassed jacket has that layer floating with the cloth, so it moves with you and lasts. A fused one is glued, which costs less. Your suit is also cut and hand-stitched by one of our tailors with many years of experience, not run off a machine line, and that craftsmanship is part of the price too. This is the kind of detail our guide on made-to-measure suits in BC walks through, because it changes how the suit feels far more than the label does.

The Fitting Behind It

Part of what you pay for is the appointment and the pattern. We take 21 measurements and keep them on file, so the fit is built to you and your next order is faster. The first appointment is free, and it is where most of the work that makes a suit fit actually happens.

FAQ

What is the most expensive part of a custom suit?

Usually the cloth. Finer, lighter wools such as Super 120 and Super 150 cost more than a wool blend because of the yarn and finish. The cloth choice is the single biggest lever on the final price.

Does jacket construction change the price?

Yes. A fully canvassed jacket, where the internal shaping layer floats with the cloth, costs more than a fused jacket that is glued. The canvassed build moves with you and holds its shape longer, which many men find worth the difference.

Is a more expensive suit always better?

No. A higher price usually means finer cloth or more hand construction, not a better suit for every man. The right choice depends on the season you need it for and how you plan to wear it.

Price your build before you book. Wool blend from $899, Super 120 from $1,299, Super 150 from $1,699. Shipping, the first appointment, and alterations are always included.
