You can spend thousands to refresh your wardrobe but if you skimp on the shoes that money will go to waste. Having high quality, timeless shoes will complete any wardrobe perfectly. In this post, we will give you the first three shoes you should own as well as a few alternative to those and seasonal additions. Essential ShoesOxford & Whole CutShoe #1 & #2 - A brown and black formal dress shoe like the oxford & whole cut are must haves in your wardrobe. These will be go to’s that you wear every single work day. Choose the formality of the shoe based on your office dress code. Add a little more styling if you are in a casual environment like the pictured oxford above. If your dress code is more formal, go with a solid colour like the whole cut. Double MonkAlternative – Try a single or double monk instead. A formal shoe that goes well in most occasions that an oxford or whole cut will go. BluchersShoe #4 - A blucher is a shoe that will go with a semi-formal, dress down look. If you are wearing a sport coat, dress pants or dark wash denim with a dress shirt, this will be your go to shoe. Chukka'sAlternative – A chukka boot is my favourite shoe. I wear it with jeans and a sport coat or jeans and a t-shirt. It is one of the most comfortable, stylish shoes you will ever own. If you want it to look more formal, choose a natural wood sole over a rubber sole. Seasonal ItemsChelseaThe Chelsea boot can go with a suit if the weather permits, think heavy rain or snow, but we prefer it with the jean and sport coat look. This boot is extremely versatile from fall to spring. A solid investment. Casual Summer ShoeChoose between a driving shoe, moccasin or loafer for the summer. A comfortable, breathable shoe that is the obvious choice over flip flops or crocs if you want to keep it professional and/or stylish. More AlternativesOxbloodIf you want to break free from the brown and black shoes, oxblood is your next best choice. Oxblood is the burgundy colour seen above. Choose an oxford or whole cut shoe in oxblood to keep it formal. Oxblood goes with everything but black suits. Since we usually don’t recommend that guys wear black suits to work, this can be a perfect alternative to a brown or black shoe. Military BrogueThe military brogue boot is a very functional boot for regions with lots of snow or rain. Choose one with strong grip on the sole to get the most out of it. The military brogue is preferred over a Chelsea if you want a more rugged look with jeans and a blazer.
