How Long Does a Custom Suit Take? The Full Timeline From Appointment to Delivery

May 15, 20265 min read

The answer most people want: production takes five to six weeks. That is how long it takes from the confirmed order to the garment arriving.

The full answer is more useful. Here is the complete timeline from the moment you book an appointment to the day you wear the suit comfortably.

Step 1: Book the Appointment

Booking through the online calendar takes one minute. During busy wedding seasons (April through July) or peak fall booking periods, popular time slots fill up. Book as soon as you know you need a suit.

The appointment costs nothing. No commitment to order required.

Step 2: The Appointment (45 to 90 Minutes)

The appointment itself runs 45 to 90 minutes. It covers the style profile conversation, 21 measurements, and the full design session.

By the end of the appointment, the fabric, colour, and all design details are decided. The order can be placed at the appointment or confirmed afterward.

Step 3: Production (5 to 6 Weeks)

Once the order is confirmed, production begins. The timeline is five to six weeks from order confirmation to delivery.

This is the manufacturing window. Fabric is ordered from one of our many mills, the pattern is applied to your measurements, the garment is cut, assembled, and finished.

For a first-time Cardero client buying multiple suits in one appointment, one suit and one shirt are typically rushed ahead of any larger order to confirm fit before the full order is completed. This means you receive fit confirmation earlier in the process.

Step 4: Delivery and First Try-On

When the garment arrives, you try it on. The fit should be correct. The garment was built from 21 measurements. In most cases it is right.

Occasionally an adjustment is needed. If it is, Cardero covers the cost. We work with trusted local tailors who handle the work. The process takes one to two weeks.

Your measurements are updated on file after every adjustment, so the next order is built from a more refined picture of your body.

Step 5: Adjustments (If Needed) — 1 to 2 Weeks

If adjustments are required, allow one to two weeks for the alteration appointment and the work to be completed. This is the buffer you should plan for when working backward from an event date.

For a wedding or an important event, you want this adjustment window complete at least two weeks before the event. Not two days before.

Step 6: Wearing In

A new garment wears differently after a few uses than it does on the first wearing. If you have a high-stakes event, wear the suit once or twice in lower-stakes settings beforehand. This confirms fit under movement, helps the garment settle, and removes the self-consciousness that comes with wearing something for the first time.

The Full Timeline for a First Order

From booking to confidently wearing the suit: allow anywhere from 6-7 weeks but it can take up to 10-12 in the worst case scenario. It rarely happens that we need a remake, but we always prepare for to avoid any last minute stress.

Two weeks before the appointment for scheduling. Appointment. Order confirmed. Five to six weeks production. Delivery and try-on. One to two weeks for adjustments if needed.

For a wedding: book four to five months in advance and all of this happens without pressure.

For a professional need: three and a half months is comfortable. Six weeks is possible but tight and will incur a rush charge.

Reorders Are Much Faster

Once your file is established, reorders change the equation entirely.

Reorder appointments take 20 minutes. You confirm any design changes, place the order, and production takes approximately four weeks. No new measurement session needed. No style profile conversation unless you want one.

The second suit is faster, less uncertain, and often more precisely fitted than the first. This is the compounding value of a permanent measurement file.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a custom suit take to make?

Production takes approximately five weeks, sometimes up to six. That is the window from confirmed order to garment delivery. The full process from booking an appointment to confidently wearing the suit, including any adjustments and wearing it in before an important event, takes anywhere from 7-12 weeks when planned well.

What happens after you place a custom suit order at Cardero?

Once the order is confirmed, fabric is sourced if not in stock, the pattern is applied to your 21 measurements, and the garment is cut, assembled, and finished. For orders of more than one garment, one suit and shirt are typically rushed ahead to confirm fit before the remainder is completed. If any adjustments are needed on delivery, Cardero covers the cost and has them handled locally.

How long do alterations take if a custom suit needs adjusting?

Adjustments take one to two weeks. This buffer should be planned for when working backward from an event date. For a wedding or important presentation, adjustments should be complete at least two weeks before the event, not two days before.

How much faster is reordering compared to a first order?

Significantly faster. A reorder appointment takes 20 minutes and production takes approximately four weeks. No new measurement session is needed. The file already exists and has been refined by any adjustments made after previous orders. The second suit is faster and often more precisely fitted than the first.

How far in advance should you book if you need a suit for a specific event?

For a wedding, book four to five months in advance. For a general professional need, three and a half months is comfortable. Six weeks is possible but tight, leaving no buffer for adjustments or wearing the suit in before the event. This will also incur a rush charge. The appointment costs nothing and booking early removes every timing concern.
