I've found many guys come to us for a light gray suit around May-July thinking they only have so long to wear it. The truth is you can stretch a light gray suit to the shoulder seasons of Spring and Fall as well, it just takes the following knowledge.

Spring

Once the weather turns from the cold winters, it is time to bring out that light gray suit. Bold greens; mid pinks, purples, yellow and even orange are perfect colors to wear for this season. Whether that is in your shirt, tie or pocket square.

*Keep in mind that your tie should always be darker than your shirt.

Summer

If you own a light gray suit, and you are reading this post, chances are that you are already rocking your light gray in the summer. The perfect colors to wear in the summer are pastels and they pop off of your gray suit. You should already have a few of these pastel shirts and cycle through them with your other essential suits like navy, charcoal, true blue and mid-grey.

A white dress shirt with any of these colored ties will always be a stylish look. If you want to knock your look out of the park, add a pastel color to your suit pattern. Pink pinstripes, mint green windowpane or purple glen check.

Fall

This is where most guys put the light gray back into the closet until the next Spring. Unzip that garment bag and grab your best black or brown accessories. This is where rich colors such as maroon come in to play as well. A white or light blue shirt is an easy pairing with a light gray suit in the Fall and brown or maroon go perfectly with them.

A white, light blue or even pink pocket square will pair perfectly to top it all off.

Conclusion

Adding a light gray suit in the summer works, but do not put it away when the Fall comes. When our clients come to us looking for a new suit we always ask what suits, dress shirts, ties and pocket squares they already have. The decision we make from there are based on using what is in their wardrobe. This keeps them from buying shirts or accessories they already have, or don't need.

Hi Yonela, great question. We recommend you check out our "Wake Up & Go" packages. Step 1 has a navy and charcoal suit, step 2 has a light grey.

The shirts we combine with them are white, light blue, light pink, blue pattern, light purple, grey, but also recommend black for a stylish look without a tie.

Navy and greys are considers neutrals so most colours work with them. My personal favorite is light pink and black.

For an outdoor graduation in springtime, my husband plans to wear a light grey suit. Would a solid light blue oxford be a good shirt choice? And are black shoes okay?

Hi Kim, thank you for asking. A light blue oxford looks fantastic with a light grey suit but I would recommend brown shoes in any tone over black. The black shoes will be too stark of a contrast for the outfit and an outdoor grad in the spring. Let us know if you have any further questions.
